Hi, hope all is well!

EXAMS ARE LOOMING!

Around about now you should be thinking about preparing for your exams, if you have them. The Learning Centre runs “Preparing for Exams” workshops to help you do your best.  For workshop dates and further information click on  http://www.learningsupport.curtin.edu.au

SPECIAL EXAMINATION CONDITIONS

If you have a medical condition or a disability that might affect your capacity to sit exams, it is important to arrange to have special exam conditions.  The deadline to do this is October 17 2008. Make contact with one of the Disability Counsellors as soon as possible.  Further details are at http://disability.curtin.edu.au/students/examinations.cfm

EXAMINATION SUPPORT

Also the Counselling Services runs a group program “Freaking Out About Exams” so if you’re stressing about your exams get in touch, NOW! http://counselling.curtin.edu.au/panxietystd.html#topic7std

NOT HAPPY IN YOUR COURSE?

By now you should have a good idea about what your course entails and the general employment outcomes and opportunities. If you think you may be in the wrong course (it is not unusual for first year students to change their goals or focus) or if you are OK with your course but other things are worrying you please make an appointment to see me, the First Year Experience & Transition Coordinator by emailing newtocurtin@curtin.edu.au or phoning 9266 4761. The service offers confidential, impartial advice and can help you to make better career and life decisions.

LOOK AFTER YOURSELF

Physical exercise is a great way to de-stress and feel good again, plus of course, you’ll be doing your body a favour.   If you want to get into some physical activity on campus then check out the healthy lifestyle options at Recreation Services http://lifestyle.curtin.edu.au/facilities.cfm Wearing Lycra is not compulsory!

If the run down feeling wont go away consider getting a check up at the Health Service. Local students with a Medicare card or International Students with World Health Cover get bulked-billed by the doctors, so you won’t have to pay anything.  It’s worth making an appointment to stay in the best of health. http://healthservices.curtin.edu.au/

Cheers!

Did you know?

"It's important once in the year that we draw attention to other cultures and promote tolerance and patience and the happiness to share our experiences and life with others."
- Manish Jhowry, International Students Committee Convener.

Each year Curtin hosts a Pasar malam (meaning "night markets" in Malay) run by the International Student Committee. This year's event, held in Alcoa Court on the Bentley Campus, is on Friday October 17, 2008 and will be the culmination of a week-long multicultural celebration in universities across Australia. There will be a stage with music and performances including a dragon dance, didgeridoo playing and drumming. Over 10 000 people are expected to come and visit the 40 food and cultural stalls. Come and experience the smells, sights and excitement of this traditional and fun event.
